Flying Start to Literacy: Phonics follows an explicit and systematic sequence of skills and knowledge from common sounds of consonants and vowels to less common letter-sound correspondences

There are 3 modules and 7 units organised into teaching units that contain lesson plans, reviews and an overview of the accompanying decodable texts. Each module has a comprehensive Teacher Resource Book at its base. 

The 70 engaging, decodable texts follow the same sequence for the independent practice of newly learnt skills. 

All the components of rich literacy development are covered: 

  • Oral language; phonological awareness; vocabulary; phonics; fluency; comprehension

Module One: Common sounds of consonants and vowels

This module has the added support of The Big Book of Rhymes and a set of Alphabet Cards

The module includes:

Module Two: Double letters, adjacent consonants and long vowels

In this module, the texts are paired - Informative and Narrative and are read in sequence.

Module Three: Less common letter sounds

In this module, the texts are paired - Informative and Narrative and are read in sequence.
